In Plain Sight is run by the Neighbours of 900 Helmcken, a group of residents and businesses asking the Province to meaningfully consult residents and businesses on drug policy, recovery services, and how these services are located and operated in British Columbia.

Where we stand

‍

900 Helmcken is the latest example of a failed drug policy being forced into a neighbourhood without meaningful consultation.

‍

What we are asking for:

‍

• Honesty and transparency about what is happening at 900 Helmcken.
• Meaningful consultation where residents, businesses, and community groups are heard and where feedback results in action.
• Accountability from the Province of British Columbia, Vancouver Coastal Health, RainCity Housing, and the landlord and building owner Solterra Development Corporation.
• Recovery-focused services that provide pathways to detox, treatment, recovery, and long-term support.
• Policies that help people rebuild their lives rather than simply leave them where they are.
• A change of course on policies that are not working for communities or the people they are intended to help.
• Compassion for our most vulnerable and a voice for the residents and businesses affected by the impacts of these ill-conceived sites and government decisions made in a vacuum - without meaningful consultation and without transparency.

Why it matters

‍

900 Helmcken is not an isolated issue.

‍

It is the latest example of harmful drug policies being imposed on communities without meaningful consultation. These policies impact residents, businesses, tourism, public safety, and neighbourhoods across Vancouver and British Columbia.

‍

Most importantly, they are failing the very people they are supposed to help.

‍

People struggling with addiction and mental health challenges deserve the opportunity for recovery, treatment, and a fulfilling life.

Residents deserve a voice before decisions are made.
